CTC TRAINING COURSES
As CTC's National Centre of Excellence, Dalby Bike Barn are providing a whole suite of instruction and training courses suitable for every stage of your riding development. We are offering Skills Instruction for all levels from beginners through to advanced technical riding, we're offering Led Rides for schools, businesses and families and we're delivering a full suite of Training Courses including Cycle Maintenance, First Aid and training to become a Ride Leader or a Mountain Bike Leader.

Please note that Dalby Forest has an entry charge per car* of £4 in winter and £7 in summer so if you want to save money (and the planet!) travel together.
*Minibuses and Coaches have higher charges and you should check with the Forestry Comission first.

Skills Instruction
Thinking of taking your Mountain Biking to the next level or just starting out? Try a skills development day or course. If you're new to it all we'll ensure you get a great start and do things properly, building your confidence along the way. Even if you've been riding for years we can help you develop a level of control you didn't think possible. Group sizes are kept to a maximum of six riders but smaller ratio (1:1, 2:1 etc) bespoke sessions are also available.
Get Started! - MTB Beginner Skills
If you're looking to ride off road for the first time and want develop those all important bike skills to help build your confidence, then this is the course for you. We'll show how to use your gears and brakes effectively and set up some exercises to develop your bike handling skills, helping you ride more efficiently.
You will also learn loads of other stuff including how to check your bike before each ride, basics on how to fix a puncture and a whole lot more besides - so by the end of your day you'll be raring to go and explore what the forest trails have to offer!

Beyond the Blue! MTB Fundamental Skills
Once you've mastered the wide forest tracks and built a bit of fitness up you'll be looking to venture onto some singletrack trails twisting through the trees! This course is designed to develop your fundamental MTB skills and introduce you to the skills system.
You will learn about bike set up, body position/movement, hand and footwork as well as further developing your bike control so you feel confident riding the easier sections of Red Trail. We'll cover climbing, descending and cornering along with how to cope with small trail obstacles. We'll even show you some great routes on which to practise your new found skills.

Rule the Red! - MTB Technical Skills
If you have quite a good level of fitness, you can ride most of the Red Trail (maybe with the odd section that you're not that good on) but you would like to ride it with a bit more flow, control and confidence, especially on the more technical bits, then this is the course for you.
We will take the core MTB skills system to the next level, building on the principles of body position, hand and footwork and looking, whilst introducing you to some psychological elements aimed at helping confidence and concentration. The course will cover steeper descents and climbs, berms, larger trail obstacles and more besides.
Once you put it all into practice you will be will be amazed at how much more confident you feel.

Black Magic! - Advanced MTB Skills
So once you can Rule the Red!, what about 'that' drop or jump or those bigger trail features that you've never dared try? If you're looking to ride some Black Trail then you need to be prepared both physically and mentally.
We'll make sure that your technique on the easier technical sections is spot on and then move onto the more challenging sections, working our way up to the big stuff going deeper into the psychological elements to help with concentration and commitment.
Be warned though, this course isn't just about jumps and drops or steep and rocky descents, we'll also cover the climbs as well! By the end of the course you'll be well on your way to being skilled in the art of Black Magic!

The Black Magic - Advanced MTB Skills day is priced at £99pp
1:1, 2:1 and Bespoke Days.



If you'd prefer not to join a public group, you'd like a 1:1 / 2:1 session designed just for you or you have a group with specific requirements then our bespoke days are what you're looking for. We'll work with you to develop a session plan ahead of the day so we can quickly focus in on the areas you'd like to develop.
Standard pricing for a Bespoke Skills Day is £299 or a half day for £199 which can be divided across members of the group.
Women Only Courses



We have historically found that women often adapt quicker to skills instruction (with fewer bad habits and an openness to learn - but don't tell the fella's that!). All of our Skill Instruction Courses can be available in a women only environment at the same prices as shown above. We will run specific open dates for women who prefer to learn in a female only environment and whilst essentially they are the same courses with the same content you may feel there is less pressure and more support.
These courses are:
- Run by female tutors (by prior arrangement)
- Orientated to your needs
- Fun, practical courses to suit your level
- No pressure, lots of support

Younger Riders
All of our skills courses can be run for younger groups and we can set up specific sessions. Sessions can also be run for parents and children (mums and sons, dads and daughters and all other permutations!).



This can be a great bonding experience for parents and children and we even offer discounts (off standard rates) for booking two or more family members onto the same skills instruction day.
Watch out too for our Skills School program, run in holidays and in conjunction with schools for MTB development after school or in school time.
Led Rides
Our Led Rides
allow you to have a ride designed that's just right for your group without just following a waymarked route which may not be ideal for your level or riding. We can take you on routes that combine blue routes and easy fun sections of red or we can get you straight to the best bits. Additional benefits that come from dealing with a partnership like CTC and Dalby Bike Barn is that you are in safe hands. From a fixed base and as the approved provider in Dalby Forest we have fully risk assessed our rides and have robust operational procedures including dealing with events like emergency access and late returns. Our rides are perfect for schools and organisations who need to make sure that a thorough risk benefit analysys is in place. Schools and Corporate Bookings
School and corporate group rides are a major part of what is on offer at Dalby Bike Barn and a regular part of our business. We run specific rides tailored to your group abilities for a fantastic day in the forest. You'll even learn a bit about our beautiful surroundings as well as getting lots of riding tips along the way. We also deliver sessions that include 'Aims and Games' designed to aid individual and group development. Room hire, refreshments and lunch can be arranged for an additional charge and of course bike hire is an option so you can just turn up and ride!
A typical price for a group booking for up to 10 riders with one MTB Leader for the day including bike hire would be £549 with discounts for regular bookings. Pricing is available for larger groups, for guiding only and we can even offer split group rides across a full day to help with tight budgets!
Bespoke Group Rides
If you have a large group of friends or are part of a club who would like a specific day designed around your needs we can offer bespoke group sessions for you. maybe some of you have bikes and some don't, maybe you have mixed abilities? That's not a problem, we can design a day so you all stay together and everybody has fun.
A typical price for a group booking for up to 10 riders with an MTB leader for the day including bike hire would be £549 with discounts for regular bookings.
Ride Club
A new and different part of our Led Rides offering is Ride Club which is designed to be part social, part rider development and a whole lot of fun. As part of a six week course usually run midweek, you will get together with a group and learn new routes designed around easier trails with a few challenges thrown in as the weeks progress. You will pick up some hints and tips along the way, get fitter and make new friends. Think of it like paying for an exercise class only you 're not in the local village hall, you're in the great outdoors!
Ride Club is priced at £59 for six 2 hour sessions over six weeks.
All ride club customers also qualify for 20% discount on standard price Skills Instruction sessions when booked within 3 months of their course.
Family Rides and Guided Rides
If you're not looking to ride with a group on a regular basis and don't have a big group to warrant a bespoke ride then we will also be running public rides during school holidays and busier times of year.



Our Family Rides run for 3 hours and have a maximum of 10 riders per group. The session offers a tour of the forest with snack stop (own food) where you can expect some great riding and learn some interesting facts about the forest whilst riding a mix of forest roads and easy off road sections. These rides are non-technical and for adults with children. Family rides are priced at £29pp
Notes: Min 2 riders per booking. 1 adult per 3 children (max). £29pp.
Our Guided Rides also run for with a maximum of 10 riders per group. The general level of these rides is a mix of blue route and easier sections of red. there will be a short snack stop (own food) and you can even learn some interesting facts about the forest as your guid takes you on a grand tour! Guided rides are priced at £39pp
Notes: 20% discount for a booking of two or more riders on the same ride.

All Ability Cycling
At Dalby Bike Barn we are committed to ensuring that as many riders as possible get to experience cycling in the forest, irrespective of their ability. We will be running some All Ability Days during the year where families and groups can come along and experience cycling in the forest together. We have a range of bikes on offer including recumbent and upright trikes, adaptive wheelchair bikes and tandems. Groups with carers or families can come along together to exerience off road cycling in a traffic free, forest environment.
Where carers haven't used the bikes before we can offer advice and training on the day and once you've had a taste the bikes and leaders are available for hire all year round. All ability days will be priced at £20pp for a full day of trying out different bikes with training for carers or family members on how to use the bikes and where to ride. Everybody in the group can have a go!



All Ability Bike Hire, Leaders and Training
Outside of our All Ability Days the adaptive bikes (a small selection are shown above) are available to hire, year round along with leaders where required for training or specific needs. Please call us if you'd like to know more about All Ability Cycling and carer training or click here to see which bikes are currently available.
To ensure as many people as possible can exerience All Ability Cycles are available for hire on a 1.5 hours basis. Bike hire is £20 and a Leader for accompanying riders or carer training is £45 in addition to bike hire.
Specialist sessions such as tandem rides for the visually inpaired can also be arranged. Call or mail for a quote.

Training Courses
CTC is a market leader in training courses such as ride leaders (on and off road), maintenance and first aid. These courses offer full progression for both your personal and professional needs. All of the courses below can be offered as open public courses or bespoke courses just for your group or organisation.
